Problem fixed?

I know the discussion has been very alive on the comments, but I wanted to state a couple of points:

  • Many users are experiencing trouble with the P-7811FX series laptop; these go from hang-ups to stuff that looks even worse
  • Almost as many users are also experiencing terrible customer service and technical support: rude people on the phone, bad repair jobs, necessity of repeated technical intervention
  • Finally, a subset of users found out that the problem can be fixed by lowering the performance of the graphics card using advanced tools like Rivatuner, which defeats the purpose of a gaming laptop
Please let me know your experiences with Rivatuner and if anybody can find a way not to lower the performance.

  1. i tried rivatuner when it was first mentioned. it made my games choppy, although the temperatures were more acceptable. i don't really consider this a fix. i'm currently working on getting a refund through my credit card company who extends the warranty on electronic purchases. i have since given up and bought a new computer (NOT a gateway).

  2. I'm sorry I do not have an issue with video. I play several games on high settings. Like any computer, u can run into an issue.

I do have a different situation that maybe you can give me a clue to. Do you have that WHAT U HEAR or STEREO MIX option in ur Recording Sound panel? this is how u can access it.

please tell me if u get these additional options?

  3. i would like to update my status on this whole issue of the 7811. i just finished speaking directly with a representative of acer/gateway in texas after i was contacted by him having received a complaint i filed with the bbb. ultimately, as expected, he told me that since my warranty period was up, the only option is to pay $150 (discounted for me from $199 or something after i said something about it) to get ANOTHER repair service. i of course explained the history of my 3 repairs, and his defense was that i never said anything for the remainder of the warranty period, so it was my fault that of the 8 solid months or so that i actually had to use the computer, i didn't bring it up that i had problems. since the problem seems to be a faulty gpu chip that goes bad over time, this is obviously not fair to me since i didn't have a full year for those problems to develop (they actually developed slowly about 4 months later), but that's "warranty" for you. i questioned the repair service's effectiveness since if they're going to just put the same chip in it, then it will just go bad again, and he told me the same parts would be put in.

i had previously tried to get my credit card company to refund me the money, but unfortunately it turns out i only have that coverage now, and not at the time i bought this computer, now 2 years ago. that would have been ideal, since i would have my money back and not have the broken computer sitting here anymore taking up space.

i'm debating spending the $150. one of my usb ports randomly stopped working too, so i don't even have full "normal" use of it, and can't sell the computer with a clear conscience.

i wish i could get all my money and time back, but it seems the only way to do that is a class action lawsuit, and that's just another thing to spend time and money on.
